What I love this Week: Week of 10/19

“Florida book of statutes is about THAT thick. I mean, you can hardly walk to the mailbox without breaking some law.”-Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Deputy 6/28/25 to a group of unruly HOA residents.

It’s 41 and partly cloudy as the Eastern Sky begins to lighten. Coming off of the beautiful sports weekend and already looking forward to the next.

Both round and oblong are in action. I love a lot this week, but nothing more than this fresh coffee to my right. What a blessed treasure. So are sports. So, what do I love this week? It all begins on Wednesday and rolls straight into Sunday.

A warning: Sleep will be at a premium for those looking to watch both the round and oblong action. Late night oblong and beyond early round ball. Let’s get into it.

WED 10/15

  • #1 Corner Canyon @ #9 Lehi
    • Live on ChargersTV
    • Devaughn Eka and Big, bad Briggs Love against Weston Briggs and Jayden Pearce. This game is massive. Next level talent all over the field for both teams.
  • Weber @ #2 Davis
    • Leading QB in Utah and Boise St commit Tradon Bessinger is lighting up the skies.
    • ATH Bode Sparrow is worth checking out.
  • #3 Skyridge @ #10 American Fork
    • American Fork will feel that they have a real chance to pull this upset.
    • Skyridge will need to limit their mistakes.

It’s the last week of the regular season here in Utah for Friday Night Lights. Massive matchups as teams vie for seeding and playoff spots. It’ll be chilly and drizzling. I love it!

THUR 10/16

  • “Everything from smooth mozzarella to squeaky curds.” Cache Valley Creamery Showdown is from 6:30-9:30. Chef’s Alfonso Brito, Chris Holbrook, Alex Daniels, and representatives from Safron Valley’s kitchen will compete to make the best holiday themed tasty treats “using Cache Valley Creamery’s award winning products as their muse.” ‘Gastronomic SLC’
    • This should be a night of creative wills in this culinary competition.

With no sports on TV Thursday worth watching, it’s a great night to find something else to do. A food competition involving cheese sounds like a swell alternative.

FRI 10/17

  • Brighton @ Alta 7:00 PM

There are a few college games this Friday, but that sport needs to stick with what they know best. College football knows Saturday. Friday’s need to return to being sacred for Friday Night Lights. If you are able–pack the kids in the car and drive until you see the Friday Night Lights shining near you. Support your local high school football team. These lads work hard and very few will be known beyond the high school level. If you need help locating a good game, email me with your zip code and I’ll point you in a direction.

SAT 10/18

This is the day. This is the best day of this week. Maybe the best Saturday so far this season. This is what I LOVE the most. Let’s dive.

MORNING

  • 8:00 Wolverhampton @ Sunderland
    • 9th place Sunderland will look to keep on the top half of the Table and protect home field inside the Stadium of Light.
  • 8:00 Wrexham @ Stoke City
    • Wrexham are currently 18th in their league. Just outside of the relegation zone. A draw here would be a phenomenal result. Stoke will be tough. Like Sunderland, Stoke is quite stalwart at home.
  • 10:30 Arsenal @ Fulham
    • Arsenal are TOP of the League!

Pace yourselves folks. It’s a long day.

NOON

  • Washington @ Michigan Fox
    • Playoffs are still in the future for the winner. The loser is eliminated.
    • I’ll take the visitors to win.
  • LSU @ Vanderbilt ABC
    • Points. Hundreds of them. Who really cares who wins this one. It’s just going to be fun to watch.
  • Georgia Tech @ Duke Espn
    • Tougher game than it looks for the unbeaten Yellow Jackets. They need this to remain in the playoff conversation.
  • Baylor @ Texas Christian Espn2
    • Please let this game be 42-38. Again, I don’t care who wins, but I want to see these two offenses obliterate the other’s weak secondary. Neither team tackles nor covers well. Both can score.
  • Arizona @ Houston Fs1
    • Bear Down.
  • Oklahoma @ South Carolina SEC Net
    • Oklahoma needs a bounce back. Something like 24-0 sounds good to me.

AFTERNOON

  • Sacred Heart @ Montana 1PM Espn+
    • Montana looking to remain undefeated
    • Player to watch: Michael Wortham
  • Purdue @ Northwestern (4-2) BTN
    • I was wrong on Northwestern. They’ve already doubled the win total I projected for them.
    • If there was a game for the 2-4 Boilermakers to step up and win–it’s this one.
  • UTSA @ North Texas 1:30 Espn+
    • UTSA is on the comeback. This cross-state rivalry game will not disappoint.
  • Texas A&M @ Arkansas Espn
    • A&M is a top 5 team. They can prove it or lose it this game
  • Mississippi @ Georgia ABC
    • Georgia will win. By one or a thousand. UGA wins
    • Gunner Stockton vs Trinidad Chambliss
  • Ohio St @ Wisconsin CBS/ Paramount
    • Talent, talent, talent vs A Broken Badger team.
    • I love Wiscy but the Buckeyes are too much for this struggling team.
  • UNLV @ Boise St Fs1
    • UNLV keeps finding a way to win. Every week. 6-0
    • Three of those wins are by one score
      • Miami (OH) by 3 in the final 15 seconds
      • Air Force by 3 in the final 36 seconds
      • Idaho St by 7 by way of two fourth quarter TD’s.
    • Boise St looking to get back into the National Conversation
  • Old Dominion @ James Madison Espn2
    • Monarchs will win in an upset. ODU is headed towards the Sun Belt Championship game.
  • Memphis @ UAB EspnU
    • Classic rivalry. Hometown Tigers seeking 7-0
  • Miss St @ Florida SEC Net
    • Low Scoring but competitive.

PRIMETIME

  • Georgia St @ Georgia Southern Espn+
    • Underrated rivalry. Usually a tight one score game, but no this one. Tune in for the first quarter. Southern wins by double digits easy.
  • Maryland @ UCLA Fs1
    • Bruins are 2-0 under Tim Skipper’s leadership
    • Mike Locksley will have his group of young stars ready for this battle.
  • Southern Cal @ Notre Dame NBC
    • LOVE this game. Always have. This one will be no different.
    • Jadarian Price and Jeremiah Love lead the Irish
    • Jordan Maiva, Makai Lemon, and Bishop Fitzgerald lead the Trojans
  • Tennessee @ Alabama ABC
    • Ty Redmond, Boo Carter, Chris Brazzell, and Joey Aguilar lead the Vols
    • Bama is Bama.
    • Who lights the cigar?
  • Utah @ Brigham Young Fox
    • Holy War: John Henry Daley, Lander Barton, and Jackson Bennee lead the UTES. Evan Johnson, Isaiah Glasker, and Bear Bachmeier lead the Cougs.
    • It’ll be a perfect, and I mean PERFECT football weather night in Provo. Clear skies and 55. Game of the year for the state of UTAH. I’ll take BYU to keep finding a way to remain unbeaten.

BEDTIME KICK

GAME OF THE DAY–10PM on the East Coast, 7PM local. Winless Oregon St is hosting the 5-2 Lafayette Leopards in a game that can be seen live on the CW. Can the Beavers be clever and crafty enough to engineer a win?

Lafayette is no joke. Boasting wins against Stonehill, Georgetown, Columbia, Fordham, and Bucknell and only losing to Princeton and mighty Bowling Green, the team from Easton, PA are currently 1st in the Patriot League. The Leopards have proven that they can play with anyone. Oregon St will not intimidate a team of this pedigree.

Former Lafayette Free Safety from the early 90’s, John Troxel is in his third year leading this team and has the primed for another playoff run.

Oregon St, like Sam Houston and UMass have the win repellent sprayed on a bit too thick. All three teams need to take an underwater dip in a hot Sulphur spring. Maybe that will replace the stink of losing. Maybe not. Either way, Saturday night, get a cup of late-night coffee or find a pinch of ‘marching powder’ to stay awake for this juggernaut of a matchup that will put the big, beautiful bow on the best college football day of the season.

SUNDAY

  • 4:30 AM Juventus @ Como on Paramount+

This is a huge game for Cesc Fabregas and his young squad as they host the Italian giants. It should be a beautiful day game on the shores of Lake Como.

  • Vrabel @ Nashville at Noon. Let’s go Pats. Titans will be better off losing the rest of the way. A 5-2 Mike Vrabel is what the NFL needs.
  • Jaxson @ Denver at 2:05. Let’s go Dart. Win them all.
  • Future MVP Daniel Jones @ Los Angeles (A) at 2:05. 300+ yards and at least three TD’s for the AFC South Champs and future MVP.

So that completes what I love this week. I’ll find my way up the mountain at least once most likely after the Como game.

Sports are fun but they don’t matter the most. Loving those within arm’s reach and being kind to all is the most important. You don’t need sports or fun to be kind. Be like Nike and “just do it.”

Let’s have a great Monday! Go team!

Oh, and be sure to take your ID with you to the mailbox if you live in Florida. You may just end up needing to show it to an overreaching LEO in the Sunshine State.

Find the Humor and Keep on Movin’
