What I Love: Sports Weekend 11/2

It’s 39 and raining on this gloomy Monday morning. What do I love this sports weekend? Besides the weather of course. It’ll be 55 and clear all weekend. Sublime.

Friday 10/31

Friday Night Lights Playoff Matchups begin at 4PM. Layton at Corner Canyon, Granger at Brighton, American Fork at Lehi and many others. It’s a bit convenient to have the high school games play early due to the next thing I love.

The Hometown Tigers will be playing at Rice in Primetime on Espn2 after these games are completed.

–Just my weekly plug–let’s keep Friday Nights for the high school ball. I’ll concede that there may be an Ivy League matchup at 6EST on ESPN like a Princeton at Yale or Penn at Harvard. Afterwards, something like New Mexico at Fresno or Florida St at Cal at 10:30 or so would work. You know? Games that most would not watch on Saturday.

Now, to be fair, Memphis at Rice certainly qualifies as a game that would be tough for the average person to watch on a Saturday with all of the other action taking place, but my point is this–Nearly every other game needs to be on Saturday. Most certainly, the games that matter. Bring the Saturday Game back to Saturday. Friday Nights were never meant for College Football.

All of this to say, I can’t wait to come home from Friday Night Lights and watch the fourth quarter of the Hometown game Friday Night. Go Tigers. GO!

SAT 11/1

Get up a mountain and back before 9:00 A.M. Then, it’s the Round Game.

At 9:00, the Gunners will be playing at Burnley hoping to keep the winning streak alive.

At 11:00, it’s the game of the weekend as Cesc Fabregas and 6th place Como travel to Kevin DeBruyne and top of the league Napoli. Must watch.

This game will bleed into the oblong game, but it’ll be worth it to go split screen or keep it on the tablet. Let’s go Como!

In the oblong game, it all begins at Noon. Army at Air Force and Navy at North Texas. AF QB Liam Szarka is fun to watch, and Navy is one of the final six unbeaten teams left in the nation on the road at 7-1 North Texas. These games should be entertaining.

In the afternoon, it’s unbeaten Indiana on the road against feisty Mike Locksley and Maryland. This game has potential to be dramatic. CBS “we know drama.” Wait no, that’s TNT. Whoops. Either way, CBS/ Paramount will be where to watch the drama unfold. I hope.

A little over thirty minutes before that game kicks in Baltimore, Michael Wortham and unbeaten Montana will kick off against Weber St on Espn+

PRIMETIME

Arizona at Colorado. Bear down Arizona. This is a winnable game, but it will require mistake free focused football. Coach Brennen will have the Wildcats prepared.

Southern Cal will be on the road in Lincoln. Win by one and move on. This is another game that could produce a drama filled finish. Also, this is one of a few ‘playoff’ elimination games that will take place this weekend. Of course, this is as always just my opinion, but I think that three losses will be too many for either of these teams to make the 12 team playoff. At two losses, the CFP will still be within reach.

Another of these games is next on the list of ‘What I Love’ this weekend. Boomer Sooner at Vol Nation. One of these two will miss the playoffs with three losses. This game matters immensely. I’ll take Joey and the Home team.

These three games will have my full attention at Primetime, but there is one more game that I love.

It’ll kick near 10:30PM on the East Coast, but Cincinnati at Utah is one to watch. This is another one of those playoff eliminator games. Maybe Utah has already been cut out of contention, but if they are sitting there at the end at 10-2 they will at least be part of the conversation. With three losses, there will be no chance.

Cincinnati, in theory could still get to the playoffs with a loss as that would leave them at 7-2 with three to go. It’s all about winning the Big12. Who will face off against the team of destiny, BYU in the Conference Title Game? The loser of this game won’t have a chance.

SUN

At Noon, Tennessee, Daniel Jones, and Jaxson Dart will all be in action. Perfect to have on during house chores.

So, that’s it. The games I love this weekend. Friday Afternoon- Saturday Night with a little Sunday action at Noon. Easy Peasy. Can’t wait!
