WEEK 5 RESULTS (LADY LUCK)

“The wise warrior avoids the battle.” – Sun Tzu

In a game that finished early this morning, Oregon dismantled the Bruins 34-13 in LA, turning the final page of Chapter 5 of this 2024 College Football Story. What a weekend it was in the College Football world. A weekend that began Friday Night with the Hokies taking the Hurricanes to the brink in Coral Gables, with the home side narrowly escaping with a win.

Though, the entertainment of weekend was only beginning. It was a weekend that included:

  • Kentucky upsetting Mississippi in Oxford
  • Brigham Young improving to 5-0 and 5-0 ATS with their win over Baylor
  • Colorado dismantling UCF in impressive fashion
  • James Madison taking a step back from last week impressive scoring affair and only scoring 63 in their blow out win over Ball st
  • Kalel Mullings winning yet another close game for the Wolverines
  • Alabama looking unstoppable in the first half, dismal in the second, and Georgia the reverse. AL won in the end. Weird game
  • Arizona Rising to the occasion and delivering the Utes their first loss, improving themselves to 3-1
  • USC playing a near perfect second half scoring 4 unanswered TD’s after falling into the first half Badger hole
  • Duke outscoring UNC 21-3 in the second half to win 21-20
  • Texas, Ohio St winning with ease
  • The Happy Valley White Out proving to be too much for Bielema and the Illini as they only mustered 7 points

These are just a few bullet points that I chose to highlight the weekend. If you only watched the 15 games from the pick sheet, you would’ve seen the bulk of the action, excluding the nailbiter in Auburn.

With a hoarse voice and choking back emotions, Brett Venables spoke praise for his team for their fight and courage on the road against such great adversity. Auburn looked certain to find their way to a win, but OU, somehow, someway left victorious. This one meant something extra to Venables. I could see it in his face and hear it in his broken voice. I love to see it. I love to see the passion. Speaking of passion,

Kalani Sitake. Late in the fourth quarter, the referees flagged a BYU player for a 15 yard “unsportsmanlike penalty” after shoving the Baylor player.

Now, I saw this as an “obvious flop” from my kitchen barstool and immediately went into a 20 second rant about the refs being a “joke,” and apparently, so did Kalani.

He uncharacteristically passionately voiced his opinion and displeasure of the call. Better said, Kalani expressed a bit of anger. I’ll let him tell you.

These are his words from the postgame press conference:

“I thought it was an obvious flop….We teach our guys to be smart in those situations…I just don’t think you can call that call in that situation….I just had to let the refs hear it- I think it was a bull crap call and that’s okay. They’re not perfect, they’re human too. And I’m not either, so that’s why I yelled at them, so sorry that I lost my cool. I Think they understood it…but it felt good to unleash a little bit of anger.”

He said it, owned it, and I freaking love it. We are all human.
