The Oblong game is in full swing. Each early game has made the second quarter at this point. The rain is still pouring at the window here, but the sun is out across the land. No brighter than in Annapolis where (3-0) Navy is playing Air Force. It’s 10-10 and a great game, but one that needs to be won by Navy.
I know, I know, I raved about Air Force and cast an enormous expectation upon them over the Summer, but they have already shattered that (11-1) dream. So, the better option is for Navy to win and remain unbeaten to continue to add to the AAC’s strength. As the score implies, this game has been exactly 50/50.
-Air Force #19 Junior Strong Safety Houston Hendrix forced a fumble early in the game.
-Navy #22 Fair caught and downed a punt at the two yard line. Impressive. That was followed by Navy #0 Kenneth Shan laying the boom on Air Force QB Liam Szarka. Both impressive plays.
-Air Force QB Liam Szarka is a tough dude and runs hard. Reminds me of Ian Preming. Ian will feature in tomorrow night’s “General Update.”
I’d like to add that Navy Head Coach Brian Newberry is nominated for Best Beard in Football. I’m sure many have said this already, but it’s worth noting. On this bright sunny day, his snow-white beard is prominent.
-It’s in the 40’s and raining and it’s worth mentioning that several Friday Night Light games were suspended until today due to lightning delays. Now, they get to play the second half of their games in the chilly pouring down rain. Syracuse @ Weber and Davis @ Farmington resume in the next couple of hours along with a few others. Nothing else has slowed down Davis QB Bessinger so far this season. Maybe this weather will. He had two TD’s when play was suspended with a half to go.
NAVY 17-10. Big play! Let’s go AAC.
-In OTHER scores Cincinatti is dominating so far, Michigan and Wisconsin are in a tight game, Georgia is paddy cake playing with Kentucky, and Baylor and K-State are tied at half. The Saturday is still very young. IF Baylor wins, I’ll have a follow up piece called–“I was wrong on Baylor.” Back in June, I perhaps underestimated this Dave Aranda team when I projected them at (3-9). I’m glad that I’m wrong. This team is scoring as well as any other team right now.
-Arsenal won earlier to temporarily go top of the league. Liverpool and Chelsea are playing now and if Liverpool win, they resume the top position. No matter, this Arsenal side continue to be strong. What a blast to watch. Winning games is a great feeling.
Chelsea is leading 1-0 in 61st.
-Let’s hit one more thing before we go: The American Pastime Game. Chicago is in Milwaukee, followed by New York in Toronto, then LA in Philly, and finally Detroit will play the late one in Seattle. I’ll take the Cubs, Jays, Phillies, and Tigers. This is a full day of sports. What a day for it to be 44 and raining. This is perfect.
-Liverpool equalized just now as I was about to post!. 1-1. 68th minute. I’ll post the score later.
For now, let’s go Navy!
