College Football Predictions: Week 5

“I’m not going to wait around here like a pregnant duck.”- Clive Cussler

Week Four is in the books and College Football Saturdays remain one of the best days of the week. There is more top talent in the college game than I’ve ever seen, and it makes nearly every game a must watch. Let me tell you, this week of football is exactly that–a must watch.

Before moving to this week’s fresh picks here is the Week 4 recap.

Week 4 Ten Fresh Picks:

  • Rutgers +2.5 L
  • ASU +2.5 W
  • Texas Tech +3.5 W
  • North Texas +2.5 W
  • ECU +6.5 L
  • Miami (OH) +3.5 W
  • Illinois +4.5 L
  • Colorado St +3.5 W
  • Air Force +10.5 L
  • Fresno St -3.5 L

WEEK: 5-5

YEAR: 21-19

You know, 50/50 seems about fair. I can accept such a result. When it’s just for fun, it hurts less to lose a game. However, winning feels equally as sweet. Winning is winning regardless of the reward.

This week there are playoff narrative shaping games in every viewing window. Cal will be looking to bounce back as they continue their run towards the ACC Title game, Arizona is looking to keep their playoff run going with a win, and Rutgers will want to keep their Big10 Championship hopes alive with a win at Minnesota. Clearly, these are the biggest games.

To be fair, there are a few more big games, but none bigger than the ten shown below.

So, it’s time for this week’s ‘Freshly picked’ Picks that were picked from my garden just this morning. “Seeds will be the new currency, and I’m not talking about those Frankenstein Monsanto seeds-Ben Richart “Big Short”

So, does Cal make the playoffs? Rutgers? Arizona? I mean, most likely not. Only twelve teams make it. The odds are against everyone that doesn’t have a traditionally big name. I’ll say this–the ACC is wide-open, and Cal has as much of chance as anyone else to challenge Miami and Florida St. Maybe. But I do think Cal wins this weekend, along with Rutgers, Arizona, and Oklahoma St.

Who knows? What I do know is that another amazing Saturday awaits. I’m not waiting around like a pregnant duck.
