THE Hometown Tigers are 4-0!

“What force is more potent than love?”- Igor Stravinsky

Sutton Smith broke away on a 64-yard touchdown run to put the Hometown Tigers ahead of the Razorbacks 32-31 with less than five minutes to go and that was enough. The Memphis Tigers are now 4-0 to begin the season!

What a massive day for the city and the University of Memphis as the Tigers will certainly be ranked in the Top25 and be in the G5 College Football Playoff early conversations after this incredible comeback win.

The Tigers trailed by 11 at the half but held the Hogs to just three second half points to win.

Quarterback Brenden Lewis recorded over 300 total yard and 3 touchdowns to lead the Tiger offense and Safety Kamari Wilson added 14 Total Tackles and an interception to lead the defense. Running back Sutton Smith finished the game with 147 rushing yards and the game-winning touchdown.

You can’t win them all unless you win the one you play today. The Hometown Tigers might just win them all. The AAC is strong as I noted this morning and back on 9/15. It’s only getting stronger. More on the conference as a whole after today’s results.

The Tigers have to be nothing but elated with today’s heroic performance but I’m already ready to put the celebration behind me. In a way, I hope these young men do as well. As sweet as it is to beat an SEC opponent and be 4-0, it’s not the ultimate goal. Winning each week is the goal. Celebrate the night, but then it’s back to work. Big, big rewards will be waiting at the end.

Next week the Tigers travel to FAU, followed by Tulsa, and then the much-needed Bye week. Focus on these next two weeks, do what is necessary to win those games, and sleep easy at 6-0. This is a long season, but one that has the potential to be historic for the always beloved Hometown Tigers.

There is at least one sweet lady wearing a Tiger Blue crew neck sweater in heaven smiling on these young men for their efforts. She’s the reason I love this team to the depth that I do. I live up a promise and will continue to live up to that promise until I no longer can–“always remember the hometown Tigers.” Yes ma’am. Always and forever.
