SMELLY UPSETS
Week 6 College Football
Its our dream as “GOMBLERS” (Pat McAfee) and as overall college football fans to predict and witness big time upsets every College Football Saturday!! The ones I believe we appreciate the most are the ones that surprise us the most. Take a trip down memory lane with me as we go back to 2007 and the unranked 41 point underdog Stanford Cardinal visits Southern Cal. With literally no one giving them a chance to win this game, the Stanford Cardinal defense forced 4 interceptions and won the game in dramatic fashion 24-23. Anything is possible on any given Saturday and as a passionate follower the Saturday game, I enter most Saturdays with at least 1-2 “big” upsets predicted. Some outright winners picked this season:
- Week 3 Tulane +14 (won 17-10)
- Week 5 Georgia St +9.5 (won 31-14)
Georgia St last week was probably the easiest play of the week for me. I felt that Georgia St could’ve been around a 3-point favorite. The Panthers are a tough 1-win team and we will see how they fare playing as a 2.5 point favorite against cross state rival Georgia Southern this Saturday.
Of course, with some outright wins, there will be some losses even though we may tell our wife and buddies otherwise. Some upsets I wasn’t even close on this season:
- Week 1 Colorado +14 (lost 38-13)
- Week 3 Auburn + 3 (lost 41-12)
Some upsets that won against the spread but lost on the moneyline:
- Week 1 ECU +11 (lost 21-20)
- Week 2 Texas +21 (lost 20-19)
There are always wins and losses so invest wisely.
Sometimes stats or trends do not matter as much to me, and this is one of those times. Lock in at 3:30 on CBS to watch +30 Auburn keep it “closer than the experts think” against GIANT Georgia in “The Deep Souths Oldest Rivalry.”
Also look for +12.5 Washington St. to win outright against USC at 7:30 on FOX.
This is for fun and to make games a little more interesting or agonizing at times. Like I said, we all want to predict the shocking upset, especially the ones that end up surprising us the most.
