Oh, to Be an Aggie Fan: Late in the Season

This came to me in a flash while taking a few notes this morning. “Oh, to be an Aggie fan these next two weeks.” But why? I mean the 11-0 Aggies are ranked in the Top5 across every poll and are guaranteed a spot in the SEC Championship. Could the next two weeks be that bad?

Well, they don’t have to be, but they certainly could be.

The Aggies next two weeks are at Texas and against either UGA, BAMA, or MISS in the SEC Championship game. What happens if the Aggies lose both? What happens if Alabama or Miss beats the Aggies by double digits in the final?

The Aggies will still be a solid 11-2. The two losses will just come in back to back weeks to end the season and may carry more weight. Will the eleven wins be enough to cover the late season losses?

As I remember, I wrote about my frustration with the SEC Schedules this season and cited Miss and A&M as teams that dodged some good matchups.

11/3/25 “When A&M beat Notre Dame and won me over in a major way, Major Way, I looked at the schedule to see when I would get to watch them again. I was looking specifically for the Mississippi and Alabama matchup, but no such matchup was scheduled for this season. A little bit of an oversight if you ask me.

Since A&M have joined the SEC, they have played some tremendous games with both, and in the past, one side was usually better than the other. Now, in the season where Alabama, Mississippi, and Texas A&M are just about equals, they don’t play in the regular season. How does that happen?

Instead, A&M have beaten bad Auburn, bad Miss St, bad Florida, bad Arkansas, bad LSU, with bad Missouri and bad South Carolina still on the schedule. They do get to play decent Texas at the end, which is a game that should exist every year, but dodge each of the teams that I wanted to see.” End 11/3/25

Texas A&M 11 Wins

  • 6-5 UTSA
  • 6-5 Ut St
  • 9-2 #8 ND
  • 5-6 Auburn
  • 5-6 MSU
  • 3-8 Florida
  • 2-9 ARK (45-42)
  • 7-4 LSU
  • 7-4 MIZZ
  • 4-7 S. Car (31-30)
  • 1-11 Samford

Wins against the bottom-half of the SEC. 3 cake walks, and Notre Dame by 1. 41-40. What a game. A back-and-forth wild game way back on Week 3. Is it enough to carry the Aggies past two late losses?

It should be. The Irish need to be careful with Stanford this week. If they lose and accrue a 3rd loss, the Week 3 win will be ancient history.

So, is it possible slide from 11-0 to completely missing the playoffs? Yes. It’s not likely, but I think there is a chance. And a chance of catastrophic failure is all a fan needs to get on edge late in the season. Oh, to be an Aggie fan late in the season.

–Win this week in Austin and not a word of this matters. A loss this weekend opens the door for doubt and “there can be no doubt, for doubt causes chaos and one’s own demise.”- Longhorn Fan “Mickey Pearson

An 11-1 team in the SEC is a stone-cold playoff team every season. Would this one be any different? It shouldn’t be but I think I see a way that they miss.

Oklahoma for example, if they beat LSU will be 10-2. Given the choice between the two teams, I’d take OU. 10 Wins against the 7th strongest strength of schedule is incredible. Boomer Sooner needs to beat LSU to make this relevant but it’s worth mentioning.

–Win this week in Austin, Aggies. Drop Texas to 8-4 and send them off to the Dukes Mayo Bowl.

–LSU with a loss might make Memphis.

We dream and speculate. The players play the game.

It’s almost noon. Stomach is full of air. Some would say this opinion is also full of the same. So are footballs. It’s the circle of life.
