UHSAA State Finals Set

Life is but a vapor, a mist, the breath of the buffalo in the wintertime. One minute it’s there, then gone forever.

The UHSAA Football season is sprinting to an anti-climactic finish.

4A Final

  • Ridgeline vs Green Canyon November 20th at 11:00

5A Final

  • Orem vs Springville 11/20 at 6:30PM

6A Final

  • Lone Peak vs Corner Canyon 11/20 at 2:30

Corner Canyon knocked off Mountain Ridge 59-20 yesterday morning, and Lone Peak held off Skyridge yesterday afternoon to set up a rematch of last season’s final.

Lone Peak destroyed, maybe I’ll use the word embarrassed Corner Canyon earlier this season beating them by three scores and last season held a twenty-three point lead in the State Final before surrendering it all back and losing the game 30-27 to the back-to-back champs. Lone Peak knows how to beat Corner Canyon.

The question is will they do it for four quarters?

A lucky few will get to find out live from Rice-Eccles this upcoming Thursday afternoon.

Please excuse my curtness, but why the hell, rather who the hell scheduled these games? Why the hell are they at midday in the middle of the week?

I enjoyed covering the regular season and was a bit naive to think that the final games would be nighttime features or be played on Saturday afternoons. Silly me. I’m disappointed to miss the most anticipated game of the UHSAA 2025 season.

Had I known the State Final was being played during school hours on a Thursday in November, there is a good chance that I would not have gravitated towards following this so closely. I’m glad I didn’t know.

I loved this UHSAA season. Skyridge, Lehi, Corner Canyon, Granger, American Fork, Alta, and Lone Peak were some of the places I visited, none better than Skyridge. That place is the standard of Friday Night Lights in Utah from what I’ve seen. If there is a better place in the valley to watch football on a Friday Night, I’ve yet to see it.

Lehi has my favorite crowd. I sat amongst them at one home game and two away games. Some of the most passionate and educated football fans in the state followed closely by West. I love their fans as well.

Lone Peak was elite on the field, but their fans were quite wooden, and the place was more like a library than a lively game atmosphere. I could say the same about American Fork. Their crowd needs help. ‘This place is a tomb‘ is what I scribbled while attending a game.

Corner Canyon is the place I visited the most since they are less than ten minutes away and just so happen to be the number one team in the state. I have nothing but positive reviews for Corner Canyon. The one negative was the fans expectation to win each and every night. There was no drama. Just a going through the motions of beating every team by 30+ points.

However, I don’t consider this a true negative as it just speaks to the elite level to which Corner Canyon play every week. Hot fries on a chilly night hit the spot.

Point is–I’m glad I didn’t know that the season would end without me getting to watch it because I would’ve missed out on all of the fun moments, all of the elite players, and all of the spectacular environments across the valley. Friday Nights have been my favorite this fall, and I’m truly going to miss it.

Good luck to the teams remaining.

Can Corner Canyon complete the back-to-back-to-back State Title run? Or will Lone Peak avenge last season’s gut-wrenching loss in the State Finals and end the Chargers streak?

Someone will get to watch.
