“The seventeen-year-old McNelly was in the forefront of the battle–that he not only led the charge against a Union battery but escaped death when a bullet bound for his heart was stopped by a book kept inside of his shirt.” FOLLOW ME to HELL- Tom Clavin

Young men all over the country are contributing for their teams when asked. The sport is as healthy as it has ever been with all of these freshmen making such impacts.
One such Freshman caught my eye this week. Ohio St Cornerback Devin Sanchez. Devin made his first ever start this past Saturday against Illinois. He recorded 7 Tackles, 1 Pass Defended, and 1 Fumble Recovery. He stepped up when his team needed him and showed courage through adversity on the road. McNelly would approve.
- Devin Sanchez was highly rated by 247Sports coming out of North Shore in Houston. #1 Corner in his class.
So, he will join the list of other Freshman DB’s that are making an impact this season.
Here is an update on the official McNelly Freshman of the Year watchlist.

So, through 7 weeks, these are the freshman that have caught my eye for this inaugural McNelly Freshman of the year Award.
Plenty of time to make the list. Keep doing the little things. Once you get your shot–don’t miss. Above all–be courageous at all times. A true McNelly knows no fear.
Let’s go freshman DB’s! Only up!
