MUST WATCH GAMES: Weekend of 10/12

“The urgency is at an ultimate high at this point,” said Ridgeline coach Travis Cox. “Two years in a row with a pretty dang good team and not get to final has been hard to take. I think it’s motivated our guys. We definitely aren’t taking any games for granted. A lot of these kids have played for a lot of years, so the urgency is definitely there.” – James Edward “Deseret News”

MUST WATCH GAMES Weekend of 10/12

It all starts Wednesday Night at Ridgeline. The home team is number one in 4A and currently unbeaten and will be hosting the number two team in their region Green Canyon. Can Ridgeline keep the perfect season rolling?

Thursday is a complicated day for those in the Draper area. On one hand, it’s Senior night for Corner Canyon and a top 10 battle against American Fork. On the other, former Corner Canyon star Jaxson Dart is going to hosting the Super Bowl winning Eagles on Prime Thursday Night Football. So, which do you watch? Both silly. It’s 2025. Pull up the NFL broadcast on your phone and watch it in between plays. I’m sure some will do that. I wonder when the last time was that both Jaxson and Diesel played on the same night–Best I can tell, the two haven’t played on the same night since Diesel made it to Senior High. Kind of a special thing to have one brother playing QB at the NFL level in Primetime and the other starting at Free Safety for the number one team in Utah simultaneously. Good for the Darts.

Either way, watch either, or, or neither. I think both are a must watch. As always, Corner Canyon can be seen on ChargersTV.

This isn’t the only ‘Friday Night Lights’ matchup worth watching on Thursday. Three loss Lehi is hosting three loss Lone Peak in probably the game of the week.

Keeping with Thursday. Espn will have the 4-1 Green Wave against East Carolina and CBSSN will have winless Sam Houston who like Lone Peak and Lehi will be desperate for a win.

Friday will have high school stadiums across the valley buzzing with people. The game that draws my eye is unbeaten West at one loss Granger. Both teams are (5-0) in their Region and both seeking the number one seed in 5A. Should be fun.

Also Friday night. One loss South Florida will be seeking a win against unbeaten North Texas on Espn2. Must watch for lover the of the strong AAC–And Rutgers will be in Seattle taking on Jonah Coleman, Demond Williams, and the Washington Huskies on Fs1.

After these Friday Night games, “Jim Bone and & The Dig” w/ Lee Refugee will be all keyed up and ready to go for their 10PM start time at Bar Named Sue. Born in Little Rock and the son of a former Army Doctor, Jim Bone brings together Bluegrass, Jazz punk, country, and gospel and puts forth his own eclectic style that reflects his ‘Talkin about Love’ message. Perfect for the post game football party.

Now, spilling into Saturday like a person with a hangover spills out of bed the next day…Good news is–there will be plenty of time for a before football hike as there will not be any of the Round Game worth watching with is being the International Break. Get to a trailhead, face east and hike until the headache from the night before goes away. If the hill is steep enough, it shouldn’t take longer than an hour or so. Breathe in the fresh air, let the early sun bring the life back to the bloodshot eyes, and get supercharged for the day.

A day that will be swarming with must watch games.

SATURDAY GAMES

At Noon it’s Alabama @ Missouri and Ohio St at Illinois.

At 1:30 it’s Indiana at Oregon and Air Force at UNLV. Go Falcons...By the time these two games hit their first commercial break of the 2nd quarter, Tennessee will kick off against Arkansas in Knoxville.

Primetime features Georgia at Auburn, Michigan at USC, and BYU at Arizona.

AND the Bedtime Kicks are ASU @ Utah at 8:15 and Utah St at Hawaii at Midnight. All by the latter are ‘must watch’ games.

There will be a full day of the Grown Man’s Game on Sunday beginning at 7:30 AM and ending around 11Pm. Watch it or don’t. The NFL isn’t must watch at the moment unless you happen to know someone who knows someone that is starting in Primetime. Of course, that’s on Thursday Night. Good Luck Jaxson. Remember your roots. They damn sure remember you.

So, it begins Wednesday at Ridgeline as Coach Cox continues his quest for the perfect season. Let’s take in as many of these ‘must watch’ games as possible this weekend.

Wherever you are–find some Friday Night Lights beaming and support the local team. Fans at all levels keep this blessed sport alive. Be one of the good ones.
