That’s right. I’ve made my fair share of mistakes projecting this season, but none so wrong as I was with Baylor. 3-9? No sir. Not on Coach Dave Aranda’s watch.
To be fair, I thought the Bears would begin the season 0-2 and that was supposed to lead to 1-3 by Week 4 and 2-4 by Week 6, and so on. Against the 4th toughest schedule in the Big12, it was difficult to find more than a handful of wins and certainly not their projected eight as experts had put as their over/ under season wins. There were just too many coin-flip games that I saw going the other way. All of those matchups I saw as high-scoring, and I didn’t think Baylor could score enough points in those ‘scorefest’ back and forth type games. I was wrong. Baylor can score and Baylor is winning.
At 4-2 and sleeping easy on a bye this weekend, the season is wide open for them. If they can continue to score like this, there is not a game the rest of the way that they won’t keep competitive. And I think they can against most Big12 teams. A big reason why, QB Sawyer Robertson.
Baylor QB Sawyer Robertson leads the nation in Pass completions, passing attempts, passing yards (2058), and passing touchdowns (19). His favorite target, Alabama transfer Kobe Prentice has caught 6 touchdown passes so far.
And by so far, I mean that there is still a mountain of a season to climb for these Baylor Bears. Just because they beat my measly projection by Week 6 does not mean a thing inside their locker room. There is still so much work to do to achieve the goals they would have set for themselves.
The Bears come off the bye and play a block of three games and then have a bye and then finish with another block of three. It looks like this.
- @ TCU
- @ Cincinatti
- UCF
- Bye
- Utah
- @ Arizona
- Houston
That’s not the easiest of roads to end the end of the season. All games that the Bears can win but just as easily lose. These are the coin-flip games I was referring to. With this offense clicking as its shown, they can play with anyone. Will they continue to climb through the rankings?
They are 4-2 now, which is so much better than the three I so ignorantly projected back in June, but the climb through the season is far from over.
No matter what happens the rest of the way, I was wrong on Baylor. Good luck to Coach Aranda the rest of the way.
