Afternoon Dose of Sports: 10/4

“It makes me oddly nervous today feeling happy in public. And I don’t feel any urge to be 22 years old again.”- H.S.T. HEY RUBE 10/29/02

It’s warmed up to near 50 as the rain continues to fall. The mountains are getting a steady sprinkling of powder. Should be quite the sight at first light tomorrow morning. For now, it’s chilly, gloomy, and grey just below the foothills. I’ll tell you what? It’s better than it being 100 degrees. I love this weather. I wouldn’t want it everyday, but a day of rain in a dry climate is a blessing.

And when that day just so happens to be a College Football Saturday with baseball playoffs mixed-in–it adds to my love of this weather.

Current Scores:

  • Winless UCLA is still leading #7 Penn St 34-21 in the 3rd.
  • Florida is up 22-14 over Texas
  • Notre Dame is up 21-7 over Boise
  • Virginia is up 21-14 over Louisville
  • Alabama is up three on Vandy.

All games in the 3rd quarter so far. This Penn St game is up there with Tarleton St/ Army as one of the whackiest scorelines of the season. It’s an entirely different team. Where was this team on opening night against the Utes? I picked UCLA thinking I would get a team like this one performing right now. The push the O-line is getting on the Penn St front is the most mind-boggling. How are they pushing around this defense? Is it Coach Skipper magic?

UCLA hasn’t led this entire season and they have led from the beginning of this game until now. Only the fourth quarter to go. Will the Bruins finally get a win?

3lb Chuck Roast marinating in the slow cooker. Dinner will be ready about the time that the Hometown Tigers are at half. It’s smelling up the house with savory goodness and adding to the perfection of this rainy fall afternoon.

-Michigan St and Nebraska are tied late in the 3rd quarter, Washington is down 17 on the road at Maryland, and winless Oregon St trail App St by 6 in the fourth. It’s a college football Saturday with a little baseball playoff matchup to boot. Yanks trail the Jays by 1 in the 7th and Chicago was blasted by Milwaukee.

Big PLAY Penn St! 34-28 early 4th quarter. This is the best game on TV right now. And the Michigan St game–And maybe the Texas game–And the Alabama game–And the Oregon St game…you get the point.

This is the perfect day to become one with the couch or lounge chair and watch the unpredictability of sports unfold. I’m here for it.
